Andreas Cleanthous, CFA

Industry Experience: 29 years

Andreas is an experienced investment and regulatory professional with over 25 years of international exposure across derivatives trading, portfolio management, and fund governance. He currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Blackbeard Asset Management, where he contributes to strategic oversight, risk governance, and regulatory compliance for the firm’s high-yield and distressed credit strategies across emerging and frontier markets.

In parallel, Andreas is Executive Director and Head of Risk Management at Mercury Ltd (AIFLNP), where he leads the development of institutional-grade risk and operational frameworks for alternative investment funds. His asset management experience includes managing ~$200 million in real estate, private equity, and credit portfolios at Deltamark Fund Management, as well as the successful structuring and launch of regulated AIFs and investment firms in Cyprus.

Previously, Andreas served as a Board Member of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), where he played an active role in shaping national fund regulation and oversight of the FX sector. His capital markets background includes senior roles at Barclays Bank, Depfa Bank, and multiple proprietary trading desks in London, focusing on fixed income, interest rate derivatives, and macro strategies.

Education

He holds a BSc in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics, is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, and is certified by CySEC in both Advanced Financial Regulation and AML. Andreas also previously served on the Board of CFA Society Cyprus and brings extensive experience in corporate governance, investment risk, and regulatory compliance to his board-level roles.
